The Minister of Environmental and Natural Resources Svetlana Grinchuk stated this during a joint meeting of the Government of Ukraine and the European Commission.
“According to preliminary estimates, there are already 82 billion euros of losses,” she said.
Among the most significant consequences of the war for the ecology of Ukraine are the destruction of the Kakhovka reservoir, as well as river poisoning. The most famous examples are the poisoning of the Seim and Desna rivers.
In addition, the great damage to the ecology caused the fuel oil in the Black Sea, as well as damage to the shelter over the destroyed reactor of the Chernobyl NPP.
“This is only a small part of what happens to us every day. We record additional and additional losses every day,” Grinchuk adds.
The Minister of Environmental Protection added that in Ukraine they have developed a regulatory framework designed to record and document the losses.
“To date, more than seven such cases, crimes against the environment have been recorded with a half thousand such cases,” Grinchuk says.
At present, Ukrainian specialists, together with their international colleagues, are actively working on the issue of compensation for environmental losses in the future.
