The minister also expressed confidence that the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin knows that he will not be successful in the war against Ukraine.

This opinion was expressed by Swedish Defense Minister Paul Jonson in an interview with RBC-Ukraine. “The second is to check the readiness of the Alliance at the military level. And the third is to divert attention from supporting Ukraine,” he listed.
Jonson noted that the Russian Federation wants to scare Europe so that it stops supporting Ukraine, but it will not succeed. “… We have gone from six countries participating in the PURL initiative to 20 today. So this is also a sign of growing support for Ukraine as a result of today’s meetings,” said the Swedish minister.
At the same time, he noted that the Europeans need to do more within NATO to be able to resist Russian provocations.
“This is necessary for effective deterrence. We also need to make sure that there are clear rules for the use of force in all allied territories. And all allies are ready and able to defend every inch of allied territory,” the minister said.
“Another alarm signal has sounded due to the Russian incursions on the territory of the allies, that Russia is ready to take political and military risks and that it is intensifying its hybrid operations. Therefore, we have to go through this and we have to fight back,” – expressed the opinion of the minister.
But as Jonsson pointed out, Europe has a great defense industry, but it’s a little slow and a little expensive.
“That’s why we should be inspired by what is happening in Ukraine, which has increased production very significantly – from 100 large companies to 800. So you have a very dynamic and efficient market of the defense industry, from which we need to take an example. One of the solutions, of course, is that we have opened the possibility for joint production,” the minister noted.
In general, the Swedish minister expressed the opinion that the best way to peace in Ukraine is to increase military aid and strengthen sanctions against Russia, in more aggressive actions against the “shadow fleet”, including the identification of more vessels.
“And, of course, the sanctions that affect the energy sector will be very effective. And using frozen assets and investing them in the Ukrainian defense industry – then Putin will understand that this war also threatens the basis of his power,” Jonson said.
“He knows that he will not be successful in this war. And he was not successful. Look at last year: more than 300,000 Russian casualties, and the total territory gained is less than 0.5%,” Jonson stated.
Aid to SwedenOn September 30, Sweden commented on the possible transfer of Gripen fighters to Kyiv. In particular, the Ministry of Defense noted that Ukraine should not count on a quick delivery of JAS 39 Gripen fighters.
And on October 15, it became known that the so-called Aviation Coalition, a group of countries that help Ukraine with the supply of combat aircraft, advised Sweden to pause the transfer of Gripen fighters to Kyiv.
