During the visit, the Japanese minister will hold a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiga and the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, reports Kyodo.

The purpose of the visit is to demonstrate Tokyo’s position towards Ukraine in its struggle with the Russian Federation and the troops of North Korea.

Iwaya became the first Japanese minister to visit Ukraine after Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba took office last month.

Ivaya arrived in Kyiv by train from Poland.

Japan’s aid to UkraineOn October 28, it became known that Japan will allocate a loan of 471.9 billion yen (approximately $3 billion) to Ukraine from the countries of the “Group of Seven”. The money will be allocated thanks to the use of frozen assets of the Russian Federation.

And at the beginning of October, the new Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba, in his first political speech mentioned Ukraine and warned about the threats of East Asia. In particular, Isiba said during his speech that the world is becoming more and more divided, and the situation in Ukraine may foreshadow the future of East Asia.

In September, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi held a meeting with the then Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, in the United States.
