Developing new games is getting more and more expensive, so Sony is using every option to make money.
He said this in an interview on the Kinda Funny Games YouTube channel. Yoshida believes that players take remasters in vain. Many people think that Playstation spends time and money on re-releases instead of making new games, but this is not the case:
“I think the people who complain about it maybe think that Herman[Herman Schultz, the current president of Playstation – ed.]is doing it instead of doing something new. But I’m sure that these remakes are being made special , another team, or some porting teams, especially the PC version. So I don’t think he’s sacrificing anything by doing that.”
Then why do them? Everything is simple: money. Game development is becoming more and more expensive every year, and remasters of projects beloved by players make it possible to quickly and cheaply earn money, as well as attract a new audience, if, for example, a re-release is also a PC port, Shuhei Yoshida thinks.
Yoshida concluded his speech by saying that gamers should buy and play the remasters if they want to receive new big-budget projects from Playstation: “Support Herman in porting and remastering so he can continue to invest in great new games.”
We previously reported that Playstation canceled two unannounced game-services, one of which was supposed to take place in the God of War universe.
