Dmytruk told reporters that he was forced to flee Ukraine because of his stance on the law banning the Russian Orthodox Church.
According to The Independent, Dmytruk, who is a deacon of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate), will claim at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday that he is a victim of political persecution by the government of Ukraine because of his support for the church.
“Now there is a political persecution of me and my family, against me for my political views and support of the UOC,” the deputy said.
Dmytruk also said that the British government provided him with security after he arrived in the country.
