According to the chancellor of Germany, it was a question of financing due to the reduction of pensions and the withdrawal of money from local communities.
According to the head of the German government, Lindner allegedly wanted to allocate funds for Kyiv from the pockets of citizens of retirement age.
“There are not many other countries that can afford to send more than 12 billion euros to support another country that is at war. … We have tried to do this several times. But now we have reached the point where, according to the plans of the former finance minister , it was about financing due to the reduction of pensions, due to the withdrawal of money from local communities, due to the funds that are not enough for the modernization of our country,” said Scholz.
He emphasized that among Lindner’s proposals there was also a change in the pension calculation formula, “which, in the end, always means a reduction in pensions”:
“Should citizens and pensioners pay for it? The answer is no.”
Collapse of the coalition in GermanyAs UNIAN reported, in early November, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz dismissed the country’s Finance Minister Christian Lindner – the leader of the Free Democratic Party, which was part of the government coalition. This political force left the government.
Subsequently, Scholz announced a vote of confidence in the Bundestag in January 2025 and the appointment of new elections in March. The date will be finalized by the President of Germany.
