The EU reacted to Putin’s statements regarding nuclear weapons

The European Union says that “this is just a continuation of very irresponsible and unacceptable behavior on the part of Putin””, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org

The European Union “strongly rejects” threats made by Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding a nuclear response.

“This is not the first time that Putin is betting on his nuclear arsenal. It is also just a continuation of very irresponsible and unacceptable behavior on the part of Putin, who is showing his true face to the whole world, especially during the high-level week of the UN General Assembly,” EU foreign policy spokesman Peter Stano said during a briefing.

According to him, Putin again and again does not shy away from a nuclear adventure.

He also noted that the EU “resolutely rejects” these threats and is trying to convey its position to international partners, drawing their attention to how insane and irresponsible Putin’s behavior is.

On September 25, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, announced a nuclear response against the background of Kyiv’s efforts to obtain permission from the West to strike with Western weapons deep into the Russian Federation.

According to him, in the updated version of its nuclear doctrine, Russia plans to consider aggression by any non-nuclear state, but with the participation or support of a nuclear state, as a joint attack. Putin noted that Moscow will consider the possibility of using nuclear weapons upon receiving “reliable information about the massive launch of air and space attack means.” These are strategic and tactical aircraft, cruise missiles, drones, hypersonic and other aircraft.

The American Institute for the Study of War, analyzing Putin’s statement, noted that he continues to threaten the possibility of a nuclear confrontation between Russia and the West in order to strengthen control over Western decision-making and prevent the West from granting permission to Ukraine to use long-range weapons to strike military facilities in the Russian Federation .

“ISW has long considered Russian threats of nuclear weapons as part of the Kremlin’s plan aimed at self-restraint in the West, and not as evidence of Russia’s readiness to use nuclear weapons. ISW continues to believe that Russia is unlikely to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine or elsewhere,” the analysts emphasized.

The Office of the President of Ukraine called Putin’s words another “nuclear blackmail”.

On September 7, Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), William Burns, commenting on Russia’s threats to use nuclear weapons, said that Putin will continue to periodically threaten direct confrontation with the West, but these threats should not intimidate the West.
