The statement was published on the website of the Czech government.
The government statement indicated that Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said that his country had certain reservations about some points of the declaration. Babiš added that the Czech Republic does not plan to send its military to Ukraine after the end of the war to monitor peacekeeping.
At the same time, the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic expressed the opinion that the initiative regarding ammunition for Ukraine can continue if other countries are ready to finance it.
He emphasized that the money of Czech citizens will not be spent on the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine, and the procedure should be transparent and without corruption.
“Although I still have a meeting of the National Security Council, where I will learn more details about the munitions initiative, but after all the negotiations that I have already completed, I have decided, even after agreeing with the coalition partners, that we will not cancel the munitions initiative. The project will continue, and the Czech Republic will act as a coordinator. No money from Czech citizens will be invested in the munitions initiative. The procedure must be transparent and free from corruption,” Babish noted.
Ukraine and the Czech Republic: the latest newsEarlier, UNIAN reported that the speaker of the lower house of the Czech parliament, Tomio Okamura, opposed the provision of arms to Ukraine and complained about the “thieves of the Zelenskyi junta.” Okamura said that, in his opinion, the West is profiting from the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Moreover, he called this weapon ineffective and assured that the Russians “break it even before it reaches the front.” The Ambassador of Ukraine to the Czech Republic, Vasyl Zvarych, reacted to these accusations and noted that these words should be regarded as Okamura’s personal position. According to Zvarych, this opinion of the Czech politician was formed under the influence of Russian propaganda.
We also wrote that the Czech opposition political movement “Freedom and Direct Democracy” plans to initiate a vote in the Chamber of Deputies on his resignation after Okamura’s scandalous anti-Ukrainian statements. Members of the SPD movement consider Okamura’s statements shameful and unacceptable. They called on the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic, as well as the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Andrej Babis, to distance themselves from these statements.
