The CEC commented on the rumors about the presidential elections and the referendum after February 24The last elections in Ukraine were held in 2020 – to local councils / photo UNIAN, Mykola TysUnder the current legal framework, any election processes and referendums are possible only after the cancellation or termination of martial law, and new documents regarding the organization and conduct of post-war voting have not been submitted to the Central Election Commission. Serhiy Dubovyk, Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee, said this in a comment to “Suspilno”.

In particular, he noted that the CEC representatives are currently working on the legislation on post-war elections together with the People’s Deputies. Dubovyk explained that the basis for the group’s work is CEC Resolution No. 1 dated January 7, 2026.

According to him, as part of this process, there is a constant exchange of documents between the CEC and the Verkhovna Rada.

“The CEC did not receive any other documents regarding the organization and conduct of post-war elections. Under the current legal framework, any election processes or referendums are possible only after the cancellation or termination of martial law,” the official explained.

The prospect of elections in UkraineAs UNIAN reported, the Financial Times newspaper, citing Ukrainian and European officials, wrote that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, intends to announce a plan to hold presidential elections and a referendum on February 24.

Later, the President’s Office stated that security is necessary for holding elections.
