Jonson added that the majority of Swedish citizens support aid to Ukraine.

This was the call made by the Minister of Defense of Sweden, Paul Jonson, in an interview with RND. The minister noted that if an enemy plane enters Sweden’s airspace, the military must chase it away or shoot it down.
He emphasized that it is time to change the mentality and be ready for possible challenges both morally and militarily.
“A change in mentality is necessary: we must go into war mode in order to resolutely deter, protect and preserve peace. The Russian Federation is constantly testing European unity and determination. Therefore, we must counter and strike back: if an enemy warship or combat aircraft enters our airspace or our waters, we will be forced to drive it away – and, if the circumstances require it, shoot it down,” the minister emphasized.
Jonson added that the majority of Swedish citizens support aid to Ukraine and an increase in the defense budget: “Nearly 90% of the population wants to maintain or expand support for Ukraine, and the majority is in favor of strengthening defense capabilities. Peace is not a gift, it must be defended every day.”
Jonson’s other statements about security in EuropeEarlier, the Minister of Defense of Sweden named three goals that Russia pursues in Europe. Jonson expressed his conviction that the Russian Federation wants to scare Europe so that it stops supporting Ukraine, but it will not succeed.
He also expressed confidence that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin knows that he will not be successful in a war against Ukraine.
