“I thanked him for his significant contribution to the strengthening of Ukrainian defense. In particular, for the decision to annually allocate 0.25% of GDP to support our state. He also noted the importance of Lithuania financing the production of Ukrainian drones in Ukraine. Attention was paid to increasing investments in our defense industry and launching joint defense enterprises. This will make it possible to strengthen the Ukrainian economy and strengthen defense production,” the post states.
Shmyhal emphasized that Lithuania remains one of the biggest advocates of Ukraine in its European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
Earlier, the delegation from Lithuania held a meeting with the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk. He noted that he expressed gratitude for the military, humanitarian and political assistance that Lithuania has provided to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war.
On November 23, 2024, Ukraine and Lithuania signed a memorandum that provides for the financing of Ukrainian long-range drones. This is a long-term agreement, within the framework of which the first tranche of 10 million euros has already been agreed. Lithuania directs these funds to the production of Ukrainian long-range weapons, in particular the “Palyanytsia” project.
