According to him, the following was discussed during the meeting:
- strengthening the defense capabilities of Ukraine and Europe. In particular, Lithuania has announced its readiness to invest in the production of the Palyanytsia drone missile, which is part of the Ukrainian long-range program;
- strengthening trade and economic ties;
- support for Ukraine’s membership in the EU and NATO;
- strengthening of sanctions against Russia and confiscation of Russian frozen assets.
Shmyhal also thanked Lithuania for the transfer of equipment from the decommissioned Ingalina NPP and Vilnius TPP.
Earlier, the Prime Minister of Ukraine reported that intergovernmental consultations with the delegation of the new government from Lithuania, led by the newly appointed Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas, had begun in Kyiv.
On November 23, Ukraine and Lithuania signed a memorandum that provides for the financing of Ukrainian long-range drones. This is a long-term agreement, within the framework of which the first tranche of 10 million euros has already been agreed. Lithuania directs these funds to the production of Ukrainian long-range weapons, in particular the “Palyanytsia” project.
Lithuania is one of the leaders in the amount of aid to Ukraine, as well as in terms of spending on defense – this year it has already allocated 3.2% of its GDP for these purposes, which exceeds NATO’s figure of 2%.
