“The need to lower the mobilization age is stated by both the current and the future administration of the USA”, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org
“As of today, there are no legislative initiatives and there cannot be… As for the partners, if you are our partners, do not forget about it, because, unfortunately, even the promised weapons that you promised to provide, they have not been provided . And to form additional battalions, which, by the way, we already have formed… We cannot send to the battlefield without weapons. Therefore, sometimes it is very unclear to me why this happens. Perhaps this is really some kind of political pressure, in order to try to discredit the current government, the parliament, the president,” Fedienko said.
When asked whether the United States could reduce aid if Ukraine does not lower the mobilization age, Fedienko replied that it should wait until the new administration begins to perform its duties.
“Right now, while the president-elect of the United States has not yet taken office, there may be various personnel changes. We initially thought that one representative of the President’s administration would cooperate with us on defense issues. Now we understand that it will be different. Therefore, let’s wait until they sit down on the chairs there. Then we will draw conclusions,” Fedienko said.
Earlier this week, current US President Joe Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, said in an interview with Bloomberg that Ukraine will have to resolve the issue of lowering the age of mobilization. Mike Waltz, the future adviser to US President-elect Donald Trump, also stated the need to lower the mobilization age in Ukraine. “They can get hundreds of thousands of new soldiers,” Volz said in an interview with the ABC TV channel, noting that the age of mobilization in Ukraine is now 26, not 18.
