The president tried to reassure the riots on Monday, but unsuccessfully.
Vucevich, who was appointed Prime Minister last year, stated that the reason for his resignation was an attack on students, which occurred last night in the new———–pt-case office of the Serbian Progressive Party. The clash happened between the members of the Vuchich Party and the students who protested, resulting in a few students injured.
Vucevich told reporters that his political party “should show the maximum degree of responsibility”, adding that the decision “satisfied the majority of protesters’ requirements.”
“The resignation of the Prime Minister has become the strongest signal from Vuchich’s administration that he wants to suppress the most serious challenge to his ten -year dominance in the largest country in the Western Balkan region,” Bloomberg writes.
Protests in Serbia – what is knownIn Serbia, student protests began for more than two months, which began after the collapse of the concrete canopy at the railway station in the new-November 1st last year, resulting in killed 15 people.
On Monday, Alasandar Vuchich proposed to replace half of his office after tens of thousands of students and supporters of the opposition blocked part of the Belgrade Center.
In the neighboring Slovakia, there are also thousands of protests against Prime Minister Robert Fitzo. The protests took place after the Slovak Prime Minister made a private trip to Moscow to meet with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. However, Fitzo rejected the calls of his country’s citizens to resign, stating that the government can only be changed if the elections were held.
