The government of Estonia demands clarification from Russia / Photo: screenshot from the videoOn Wednesday, December 17, at approximately 10:00 a.m. local time, surveillance cameras of the Eastern Prefecture recorded a vessel with Russian border guards on an air cushion in the area of the Vasknarva breakwater on the Narva River, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia reports.
The statement says that the Russian vessel stopped near the breakwaters, after which the three border guards disembarked and walked along the breakwaters. It is noted that during the movement they illegally crossed the control line and entered the territory of Estonia. Then they returned to the ship and sailed towards Russia.
According to Eerik Purgel, head of the Eastern Prefecture Border Bureau, several Estonian border patrols responded to the incident.
“The incident was recorded by surveillance equipment, and an initial inspection was also conducted at the breakwater. Official contact was established with the border representative of the Russian Federation to obtain clarifications,” Purgel said.
It is noted that after this incident, the Eastern Prefecture of Estonia increased patrolling in the area in order to be able to quickly respond to such provocations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia reported that on Thursday, December 18, a meeting of representatives of the border agencies of both states should take place, during which Tallinn expects explanations from the Russian side. The authorities of Estonia also plan to summon a temporary representative of the Russian Federation.
Provocations of the Russian Federation in Europe: the latest newsEarlier, UNIAN reported that the German political scientist Carlo Masala made an assumption in his book that in case of victory in the war against Ukraine, Russia will strike Estonia first. Moreover, the occupation primarily threatens the city of Narva, where the population is predominantly ethnically Russian. The political scientist assumes that the formal pretext for Russia’s attack will be the Moscow-inspired protests of citizens against “oppression” by the central government of Estonia. At the same time, Masala indicates that an invasion may occur as early as 2028.
We also wrote that Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo believes that in the event of a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, Russia will transfer its troops to NATO’s eastern flank. Therefore, he called on Europe to allocate more funds for the defense of the frontline states. Orpo noted that even when peace comes to Ukraine, Russia will still remain a threat. Eight countries that share a sea or land border with the Russian Federation and Belarus are trying to coordinate military capabilities in areas such as air defense, drones and ground forces.
