The diplomatic presence of the United States in some regions of the world will be sharply reduced.
America will dramatically change priorities in foreign policy / photo ua.depositphotos.comThe Trump administration plans a large -scale reorganization of the State Department (analogue of the Foreign Ministry), which provides in particular a significant reduction in the US diplomatic presence in Africa. About it reports The New York Times with reference to the words of American officials and a draft decree, a copy of which came to journalists.
The publication notes that the authorship of the document is incomprehensible, and the head of the State Department Marco Rubio directly called him a fake. However, the ideas set out in the draft decree have been discussed for a long time among American high -ranking officials. Also, NYT does not rule out that it may not be the final version, and the final appearance of the decree may be slightly different.
The document whose authenticity is not confirmed is designed to “streamline tasks”, while reducing “wastefulness, fraud and abuse” in the work of the foreign policy. All changes are planned to be implemented by October 1.
Among other things, the draft decree provides for the following changes:
- The exam for beginner diplomats is abolished, and there will be a number of hiring criteria instead, which include “compliance with the president’s foreign policy.”
- The State Department Bureau is blooming that help develop and implement policies in certain parts of the globe. Instead, these functions will be transferred to four “corps” – Eurasian (Europe, Russia and Central Asia); Central and Eastern (Arab countries, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan); Latin American and Indo-Pacific (East Asia, Southeast Asia, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Banuta and Maldives).
- The African Bureau is dissolving. The US policy in the countries south of the Sahara will hand over a much smaller office of a special Africa envoy. All “insignificant” embassies and consulates in this part of Africa will be closed by October 1.
- Bureau on democracy and human rights, refugees and migration and cooperation with international organizations are liquidated.
Trump Reforms: The largest scandalsAccording to UNIAN, the new US Presidential Administration has initiated a large -scale reduction in government spending, focusing mainly on the defense budget and international assistance. In particular, a major scandal was the liquidation of the State Department, which was engaged in humanitarian aid programs around the world.
