Russia recruits African women to drones production factories / ReutersThe Government of South Africa has been investigating after reports of campaigns of Russian companies that recruit local women allegedly to work in industrial zones. There are fears that much of them is actually involved in the production of military drones for war against Ukraine, writes Bloomberg.
The key role in this is played by the special economic zone “Alabuga” in Tatarstan-one of the centers of production of SHAHED-136 drones. According to the Institute of Science and International Security, African women are lured under the guise of employment in the field of construction and maintenance, and then transferred to the production lines of drones.
“We estimated that about 90% of women going to Alabuga get to the program of use of drones,” said SPENSER Farhagasso researcher. “They create weapons and are under sight because they become part of the war.”
Local structures, including women’s business alias, have signed agreements for the supply of thousands of workers to Russia. The organization denies that women will work in dangerous conditions, but the South African government has officially confirmed the start of the inspection.
According to Bloomberg, the recruiters attended even schools in Johannesburg, offering girls free tickets and the prospect of their own housing in Russia. Similar events took place in neighboring countries – Botswani and Lesotho.
Alabuga plant – what is knownAs reported by UNIAN, Russia has established the production of “Shahanedov” in the special economic zone of Alabuga, located more than 965 km east of Moscow. Iran gave Russia permission to produce them under an agreement worth $ 1.75 billion, which was concluded in early 2023.
At the same time, Tehran began to be disappointed in Moscow, as almost 90% of ShahED is located in Russia. Moreover, the aggressor country began to produce more sophisticated versions with a limited Iranian contribution.
