This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction, Minister of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine Oleksiy Kuleba during a meeting with journalists, UNIAN correspondent reports.
“For the past several months, Russia has been hitting the same point with Shaheds 15-20 times. Now Shaheds carry up to 90 kg of warheads, despite the fact that two years ago the warhead was half as much. Also, drones hit targets under the guidance of the operator. Drones perform complex maneuvers in flight. However, Ukraine is also improving its defense and technologies. This applies to both the military and civilian sectors,” he noted. he
According to Kuleba, from 2023, the Recovery Agency was responsible for the protection of 22 Ukrenergo facilities in 14 regions.
“These are 46 defense elements, of which 38 are 100% completed, 8 more will be completed by the end of the year, their average state of readiness is about 90%,” he clarified.
According to the plan, an additional 100 energy facilities should be protected by the end of the year.
“A list of priority objects that need additional physical protection has been jointly determined – these are one hundred objects that will be additionally protected by the end of the year. The priority selection algorithm: the priority is formed by OVA and the balance keeper, together with the Ministry of Energy,” added the Deputy Prime Minister.
According to him, the protection of critical infrastructure facilities includes mobile fire groups, the use of EW, air defense and physical protection of facilities.
In turn, the head of the Reconstruction Agency, Serhiy Sukhomlin, noted that physical protection has three levels.
“The first is minimal, the second is from damage by drones and missile fragments, the third is from damage from missiles (this means the construction of large underground structures of 10,000 square meters from many layers of concrete next to the existing substations. This costs billions of hryvnias). After the construction of such structures, new substations will be installed in them,” he noted.
Sukhomlin emphasized that the existing substations are already equipped with the second level of protection.
Attacks of the Russian Federation on energy infrastructureSince the beginning of autumn, the Russian Federation has intensified its attacks on the Ukrainian energy industry. On the night of October 30, the Russian Federation massively attacked energy facilities with missiles and drones for the third time since the beginning of October. As a result of the strikes, destruction was recorded, and there were also victims.
The head of “Ukrenergo” Vitaly Zaichenko stated that the tactics of the enemy’s attacks on the Ukrainian energy system have changed. According to him, the Russian Federation seeks to bring it to an unusable state.
At the same time, energy expert Gennadiy Ryabtsev noted that thanks to the arrangement of engineering protection and the work of air defense, the probability of damage to energy facilities decreases, adding that it is impossible even theoretically to completely neutralize the consequences of Russian attacks.
