Landsbergis fears that further clashes can lead to the application of Article 5 of the NATO Statute and involve the Alliance into an open war with Russia.

“Do we accept the reality of what may be in a state of war, do we still believe that we are controlling the situation?
Landsbergis fears that further clashes can lead to the application of Article 5 of the NATO Statute. Then, he said, “it will be too late” – the Western Alliance will be in a state of war with Russia.
“In 2022, I argued that NATO had to respond, but here we are again. There is a clear escalation, and we still do nothing,” he said.
NATO officials and analysts warn that the Russian tactics of using drones are aimed at checking the alliance’s determination – where its “red lines” pass and how far they can go.
Landsbergis noted that that is why Russia is feeling the soil:
“Putin now realizes that 20 drones that have flew into Poland are under Article 4, and 12 minutes in the airspace of Estonia is not under Article 5. He will continue to promote this line.”
At the same time, he condemned NATO’s unwillingness to draw clear “red lines”, emphasizing that it is now about “strategic communication, not strategic actions.”
He noted that there are several ways to ensure the “red line”, including Russia’s report that in the event of a re -violation of NATO airspace, Ukraine will receive German Taurus missiles or American “tomagavi” to destroy the lanes.
Landsbergis considers such an obvious passivity of NATO as “the geopolitical day of a constantly repeating Grandma”: “Instead of asking if we will run the risk of starting the Third World War, let’s ask ourselves: will we risk stopping it?” – he says.
Russia and NATO are the latest newsFormer NATO Secretary -General and Defense Minister Lord George Robertson warned that the British should “move away from peaceful thinking” and prepare for a major conflict scenario. He urged households across the country to stock up on candles, flashlights, water and radios on batteries to be ready in the event of war or large -scale power outages.
And the former head of special operations of the Central Intelligence Directorate in Europe and Eurasia Ralph Goff noted that if Western countries do not respond strictly to the sabotage of Russian special services, there would be a serious threat of even greater escalation.
