Earlier, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, stated that “Slovakia is allegedly ready to become a platform for possible negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.” According to him, “he discussed this issue at a meeting with the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico.”
Putin said that he “is not against the fact that the alleged negotiations took place in Slovakia.”
“Yes, we don’t mind if it comes to that. Why not? Slovakia takes such a neutral position, in our opinion. This is an acceptable option for us,” Putin said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine responded to such a statement by the leader of the Russian Federation.
“We hear different statements from time to time. As in the previous question, I suggest not to believe the liars at their word,” said the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Georgy Tykhi.
Regarding the platform for negotiations, the spokesman noted that “ideas and proposals from different parties and leaders are heard from time to time in the information space.” He emphasized that “Ukraine needs a sustainable, just and comprehensive peace.”
“There is a peace formula process. We encourage all parties who want to help to play their part. Everyone can find a role in these efforts to really bring peace closer. This applies to all our partners, including the Slovak side,” Tykhy said.
In June 2021, on the eve of the meeting with Putin, Biden made a statement about the prospects of Ukraine joining NATO. Then, among other things, he denied that Russia’s occupation of parts of Ukraine could preclude its accession. After a few days, On June 16, 2021, Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin held a meeting in Geneva.
Then, in February 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which it calls a SVO (special military operation). Initially, Moscow declared the “demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine” as the goal of the “special operation.”
Spokesmen of Russian propaganda constantly repeated that if Russia had not started the so-called “special operation”, NATO would have attacked first.
The other day, a member of US President Joe Biden’s team and adviser on European affairs at the US National Security Council, Michael Carpenter, said that Ukraine’s membership in NATO may follow the cessation of hostilities.
The administration of US President Joe Biden previously stated that there is still no consensus among NATO members regarding the invitation of Ukraine to the alliance, which President Volodymyr Zelenskyy identified as the first point of his “victory plan.”
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that Ukraine will join the alliance in the future and become its 33rd or 34th member. Answering a question about Zelenskyi’s call to invite Kyiv to join NATO, Rutte called Ukraine’s path to the alliance irreversible.
At the same time, he did not give an answer to the specific question of when this will happen.
