In his opinion, tax officials should get access to the financial data of Ukrainians, which are bank secrets.
“Unequivocally,” the minister answered the presenter’s question about whether tax officials should have access to banking secrets.
“And we should not be afraid to reveal bank secrecy, which we believe protects us from something. Bank secrecy protects thieves and criminals,” Marchenko said.
He expressed his belief that bank secrecy for tax officials will be abolished within the framework of European integration.
Marchenko believes that Ukrainians’ mistrust of state institutions can become an obstacle on this path. At the same time, the Minister of Finance himself does not know how the information will be used.
Marchenko added that the employees of the tax office will not work with financial data of a specific person, but will analyze arrays of data. The Minister of Finance explained:
“The taxman will not be specific to know who it is. It will be a database and they will work with risks.”
