This was stated by the new President of Syria Ahmad Ash-Shara during a visit to Moscow, Syrian agency writes.

“We respect all the agreements concluded earlier and strive to define the nature of these relations-on the basis of independence of Syrian state and national sovereignty. The integrity, unity and security of Syria are directly related to stability in the region and in the world,” Ash-Sharaa said.

After the negotiations of the leaders of the states, the statement for the press was made by Vice Prime Minister of Russia Alexander Novak. According to him, Moscow wants to work on oil projects in Syria and help her restore energy, rail and other infrastructure destroyed during the years of the Civil War. According to him, both leaders discussed this issue in detail.

“Russian companies have long been working in Syria, oil deposits. There are deposits that need development, there are those that are preserved and new deposits. We are ready to participate,” Novak said.

According to Reuters, before the negotiations, the Kremlin announced the discussion of the fate of two Russian military bases in Syria-the Khmeimim Air Base and the Navy in Tartus. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov suggested that Damascus was interested in preserving Russian military bases.

Instead, the sources of Reuters say that Syrian officials seek to receive from Russia guarantees that it will not equip the forces that supported Assad. Also, the Syrian government, according to sources, hopes to receive help from Russia in the restoration of the Syrian army.

In addition, two Syrian sources reported Reuters that the President of Ash-Sharaa would use negotiations to formally ask Moscow to issue a former fugitive President Bashar al-Assad for his crimes against his own people.

According to Reuters, Ash-Shara President is interested in cooperation with Russia to confront Israel’s demands on a wider demilitarized zone in southern Syria. Formally, the warrant is based on the events of the first year of the Civil War, but the full list of claims to the former dictator is much longer.

Already at the beginning of October, the western media reported that Bashar Assad was hospitalized in Moscow with symptoms of poisoning. It seems that it happened on September 20. He was in a critical condition and got into resuscitation, but after 9 days of treatment he was discharged in a stable state. It is noted that the poisoning happened on his private villa near Moscow, which is carefully protected by Russian special services.
