80% of Ukrainians support this step.
“Citizens rely on nuclear power, because it has already proven its stability in crisis conditions. This is a direct and clear signal to deputies: they must responsibly work out public expectations and implement them in political decisions. If this does not happen, politicians will face political responsibility,” – noted Oleschuk.
The expert emphasized that the reluctance to support the completion of nuclear power plants may raise serious questions about the motivation of the deputies, in particular regarding their possible connections with forces interested in weakening Ukraine’s energy independence. “Failure to adopt such important decisions can lead to undermining of trust in politicians. Society will ask the question: why do these deputies act against the interests of citizens? In this case, politicians simply will not receive the support of voters in the next elections,” the political scientist emphasized.
Taking into account the high support of citizens and the strategic importance of the issue for Ukraine’s energy independence, Petro Oleschuk expressed confidence that the parliament will pass this decision in the near future.
We will remind you that next week the Verkhovna Rada will vote on the draft law on the completion of the Khmelnytsky NPP units.
