Ukraine gained operational superiority in the air faster, thanks to the optimization of pilot training.
According to Melnyk, special attention within the framework of the NATO DEEP program was focused on the training of pilots of the Defense Forces. The pilot training process has been optimized.
“The process of obtaining private pilot certificates by cadets has been optimized, which makes it possible to reduce the training time for F-16 pilots by almost three months. This provides an important operational advantage in the air,” he said.
F-16 in Ukraine: You might have missed itIn the summer of 2024, Ukraine received the first F-16 fighters from Western partners. On August 4, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that they are already performing tasks in Ukrainian skies.
Unfortunately, there are also losses. It is known that during the massive missile attack on August 26, Ukraine lost an American F-16 fighter jet. Then a Ukrainian pilot died, which was confirmed by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Later it became known that the pilot of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksiy Mes, died. On August 26, the Ukrainian defender entered its last battle, destroying three cruise missiles and one attack unmanned aerial vehicle.
Since then, Ukraine has received more F-16 fighters – in particular, from Denmark. At the same time, Belgium did not deliver the promised planes until the end of 2024. Among the reasons were the lack of spare parts and trained Ukrainian pilots, as well as delays in the delivery of replacement F-35s to Belgium itself.
