Results for Ukraine are the most important thing, and personalities are the second thing, the ministry says.
“First of all, Ukraine does not have the highest percentage of political appointees. If you look at American diplomacy, this percentage is much higher there, and in general it is a normal practice, indeed, to fill ambassadorial posts with political appointments, if people are able to cope with this work. Therefore, we believe that this selection of people is effective,” said the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhiy Tyhiy, at the briefing.
The spokesman reminded that the Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiga promised to update the leadership of the ministry after taking office, and it was fulfilled. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also promised to update a number of processes within the ministry.
“The president emphasized that renewal and new energy of the diplomatic service and the diplomatic corps is needed. Within this framework, there is a rotation, somewhere replacement of ambassadors,” Tykhi said.
The spokesman also urged to evaluate the activities of ambassadors based on the results of their work, and not based on the presence of diplomatic experience.
“And the minister emphasizes, by the way, that every ambassador must be ready from the moment of appointment, that the ambassador can be recalled back if there is no result. Results for Ukraine are the most important thing, and personalities are the second thing,” said Tykhiy.
Recent diplomatic appointmentsAs UNIAN reported, Valery Zaluzhnyi was unexpectedly transferred to work as the ambassador of Ukraine to Great Britain after he was dismissed from the position of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At the same time, he does not have specialized diplomatic education and experience as a diplomat.
A week ago, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy changed ambassadors in three dozen countries and international organizations at once. Among others, for example, Nariman Dzhelal, who became the ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey, received the appointment. Dzhelal also had no diplomatic education and no relevant experience, but engaged in politics as a representative of the Crimean Tatar people.
