As Oboz.ua reports, the head of state told journalists that the Security Service of Ukraine has sufficient evidence that Trukhanov has Russian citizenship. According to Zelenskyi, this information was also confirmed by the State Border Service, providing relevant data from its registers.

“The Security Service of Ukraine has enough evidence that Trukhanov has the citizenship of the Russian Federation. There is additional information from the registers of the border service, which also coincides with the fact that Trukhanov has the citizenship of the Russian Federation. How many passports are there, which are real, which are fake, who does it – I am honestly not interested. Is there a 100% fact that he is a citizen of Russia? This is what the SBU and the border guards tell me “yes”. Based on these facts and other documents, an appropriate decision can be made,” Zelenskyi said.

The President emphasized that this decision complies with the law and is dictated by considerations of national security, as Odesa is a strategically important city. According to him, actions to deprive Trukhanov of citizenship are a purely practical, legal and fair step.

“This is not a political step. I took an absolutely practical step. And I believe that it was done in accordance with the law and done fairly. Because no one knows what to expect from the “Russians” and how interested they are in Odesa. As the president, I must be sure that the people who lead the government there will definitely protect Odesa and will definitely protect it. This is exactly the choice I had with the corresponding candidacy,” he concluded Zelensky

Loss of Ukrainian citizenship by TrukhanovOn October 14, it became known that the mayor of Odesa, Gennady Trukhanov, was stripped of his Ukrainian citizenship, because, according to the SBU, he has Russian citizenship and Russian passports. According to the investigation, Trukhanov is the owner of a valid foreign passport of the Russian Federation, copies of which are in the possession of the Ukrainian special service. At the same time, Trukhanov claims that he never had the citizenship of the Russian Federation, and calls the photo of the documents being reproduced a forgery. He also assures that he will appeal the decision to deprive him of Ukrainian citizenship in court.

On October 15, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued a decree on the creation of the Odesa City Military Administration and appointed Serhii Lysak, who previously held the position of head of the Dnipropetrovsk Military Administration, as its head.

Since October 16, the duties of the mayor have been performed by the secretary of the Odesa City Council, Ihor Koval.
