The EU finance ministers are studying the ways of progress in defense readiness against the background of tensions.

According to the publication, they consider it the right choice after many years of neglect of these issues.
“I believe that Europe wakes up both in a security plan and in terms of economic situation. We know that we need to take more responsibility for our own security, we need to spend more on defense, but we should do it wisely,” said the Minister of Finance of Poland Andrzej Domansky, speaking.
It is clarified that the Ministers of Finance in the EU are studying the ways of progress in terms of defense against the background of tensions from the United States and the growing threat from Russia. All this pushes European countries to accelerate the increase in military capacity.
In particular, a new pan -European financial instrument is being discussed, which will be a supplement to the EU Defense Financing Program of EUR 150 billion.
“We are absolutely ready to support European defense initiatives. However, we have repeatedly said that it is not enough to say that we will be funding, because we need to know exactly what we are funding,” said Germany Federal Minister of Finance Jorg Kukis.
According to him, military cooperation and joint defense initiatives for Europe should be the first step, and after the implementation of this issue, “it will be possible to think about joint financing.”
EU defensive initiativeAs UNIAN wrote, earlier EU leaders supported a significant increase in defense costs to restrain Russia against the background of threats by US President Donald Trump to stop supporting NATO allies.
The EU is going to accelerate the mobilization of the necessary tools and funding to strengthen EU security and protect European citizens.
The EU EU Supreme Representative, Kai Callas, has reported that Ukraine will become part of the EU defense initiative for 150 billion euros. According to her, money should be used on weapons components made in the European Union and Ukraine.
