After the US launched a military operation in Venezuela, Maduro declared a state of emergency / collage UNIAN, screenshot, photo REUTERSVenezuelan President Nicolas Maduro signed a decree declaring a state of emergency in the country. This was announced in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela. There was also a call to mobilize in order to defeat “imperialist aggression”.
The statement states that “Venezuela rejects, denies and condemns before the international community the serious military aggression committed by the current US government.”
“This act is a flagrant violation of the UN Charter, especially Articles 1 and 2, which enshrine respect for sovereignty, legal equality of states and the prohibition of the use of force. Such aggression threatens international peace and stability, particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean, and seriously endangers the lives of millions of people,” the message reads.
The agency believes that the goal of the United States is “to seize Venezuela’s strategic resources, in particular its oil and minerals.”
“They will not succeed. After more than two hundred years of independence, the people and their legitimate government remain steadfast in protecting their sovereignty and inalienable right to decide their own destiny,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured.
It called on “all social and political forces in the country to activate mobilization plans and reject this imperialist attack” and added that President Maduro “signed and ordered the execution of a decree declaring a state of external unrest throughout the country in order to protect the rights of the population, the full functioning of republican institutions and immediately proceed to armed struggle”:
“The whole country must mobilize to defeat this imperialist aggression.”
