Kryvetskyi: The next president of Ukraine must be independent of partiesThe issue of the future president of Ukraine in the conditions of war and the absence of elections is becoming one of the key challenges for society. Ihor Kryvetsky, a Ukrainian entrepreneur, politician and philanthropist, told about his vision of this process in an interview with Dmytro Gordon.

The country is not ready for electionsIhor Kryvetskyi is convinced that Ukraine is currently not ready for presidential elections – neither institutionally nor morally. Conducting elections without a deep rethinking of approaches risks repeating old mistakes.

“We are not ready for them. Society is not ready, the country is not ready, because we will make mistakes again.”

According to him, the problem lies not only in the security situation, but also in the absence of clear rules: who exactly can apply for the highest position in the state and according to what criteria.

Not popularity, but responsibilityKryvetskyi emphasizes: requirements for a presidential candidate have not yet been formed in Ukraine. Popularity, television recognition or scale of PR cannot be decisive.

“We don’t have a developed plan for who has the right to be president. Where are these rules? They need to be developed.”

In his opinion, the country needs to clearly record the list of requirements for the future head of state — professional, moral and managerial.

The president is not the leader of the partyThe key idea promoted by Kryvetskyi is the independence of the president from political parties. The president should represent the entire country, not a single political force or group of influence.

“The next president should be a person who is the president of the whole country, not of his party.”

Party dependence, according to him, inevitably leads to personnel errors, nepotism and corruption, when state decisions are made not in the interests of society, but in the interests of the party vertical.

“If this person is not ready to be the president of the entire country, he is not ready at all.”

Social contract and right of withdrawalAs an alternative to the party model, Kryvetskyi proposes the idea of a social contract. This is a mechanism in which citizens not only vote, but also form requirements for the candidate, determine the framework of responsibility and have a real instrument of influence.

“We have the right to withdraw it. Why wait 5-6 years if it doesn’t work?”

Such an approach, in his opinion, would force the future president to work in the public interest, and not rely only on a formal mandate.

The new elite is not from the partiesKryvetskyi is convinced: Ukraine needs a new management elite, formed not by party headquarters, but by society itself. Business representatives, military, economists, managers and intellectuals should be involved in this process.

“You run for president – you don’t lead the party with you. This should be a condition.”

It is this approach, he believes, that can lay the foundation for responsible and truly nationwide leadership.
