Kasperov Advocates for Organizing Russian Exiles to Counter Putin’s Regime

Garry Kasparov has called on European nations to unite Russian citizens opposing President Vladimir Putin in a bid to create an alternative community abroad. He believes this initiative could significantly undermine the Kremlin’s ability to sustain its military efforts amid the ongoing conflict.

Kasperov emphasized the potential of a “brain drain” strategy, suggesting that the exodus of skilled professionals from Russia could be a game-changer. He noted that while the Russian military can currently deploy soldiers to the front lines, a shortage of engineers, IT specialists, and financial experts could soon become apparent.

Currently, only a few hundred individuals are part of the “Freedom of Russia” Legion, which Kasparov describes as a mere fraction of the potential resistance. He urged the importance of attracting those still working within Putin’s system who might consider leaving.

To facilitate this, he proposed establishing organizational frameworks based on the Berlin Declaration, aiming to construct a new vision for Russia symbolized by the white-blue-white flag, a representation of protest against the invasion of Ukraine.

When asked whether these individuals should physically relocate to Europe, Kasparov affirmed this necessity. He pointed out that over a million Russians fled in 2022, with estimates suggesting that up to three million may have left, many of whom were forced to return due to passport issues. He criticized Putin’s restrictive measures, which he believes are designed to prevent further emigration.

Kasperov stressed the significance of this intellectual resource for weakening Putin’s regime, stating, “Give them the opportunity to leave. This is a potential that Putin cannot replace with anyone else, not even Indians or Chinese. They cannot do what these people can do.”

He also highlighted that many of these individuals harbor negative sentiments towards the war, and their departure could harness their intellectual capabilities against the Kremlin’s aggression. Kasparov concluded by advocating for the formation of a “Russian Taiwan,” emphasizing the importance of preparing such personnel for a future Russia that maintains normal relations with Ukraine and Europe.

Garry Kasparov is urging Europe to organize Russian exiles to counter Putin's regime by leveraging their skills and creating a new community abroad. He believes this strategy could significantly weaken the Kremlin's military capabilities and foster a more favorable future for Russia's relations with Ukraine and Europe.
