29 Russian organizations (in particular, Kazan and Tambov powder factories, Mariysk Machine-Building Plant, Vimpel Corporation) and three banks (TsMRBank, RFK Bank, Timer Bank) were sanctioned. Export restrictions have been introduced against 22 Russian companies and 335 commodity names.
The Japanese authorities also included more than 10 Russians in the list of sanctions. Among them are the first deputy general director of Rostec Volodymyr Artyakov, the general director of PJSC Alrosa Pavlo Marynychev, the general director of PSV Technologies Serhiy Petrov and the head of the NPO Elektromashina Ihor Afanasiev.

In addition, 31 foreign companies from China, the United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand and Turkey, as well as one citizen of the DPRK, were under sanctions.
“This is Japan’s contribution to international efforts to achieve global peace and resolve the problems surrounding Ukraine caused by Russia’s invasion,” Japanese government secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi was quoted as saying by the AP agency.
In July 2024, the Japanese police detained a 38-year-old Russian man who runs the Atrade company on suspicion of illegal exports to Russia. This is the first case of the arrest of a Russian for violation of sanctions introduced after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Japan has supported Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion, joining the sanctions. In particular, on June 21, 2024, the Japanese government expanded the package of sanctions against Russia due to its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. There are dozens of companies on the list of sanctions, including from China and four other countries. According to Tokyo, these companies help Russia avoid sanctions when buying electronics for military needs.
