This proposal was initiated by the United Kingdom. It was presented by the Bruegel Brussels Economic Economic Center to give European countries the opportunity to finance re -equipment through the current US President Donald Trump policy on the continent.
The publication added that several EU member states were interested in the creation of a mechanism that resembles a European stabilization mechanism that was created during the eurozone crisis.
“The European Commission has released a re-equipment for 800 billion euros over four years, stating that it is ready to weaken the budget rules imposed on Member States, excluding military expenditures on the budget deficit calculation, and launch a joint loan of 150 billion euros. If their deficit remains within the limits, ” – emphasized in Le Monde.
Therefore, the idea of creating an intergovernmental fund for the purchase of certain weapons, for example, rockets or military satellite systems that can be useful to all states of the Union, has come up to create an EU Member States.
Thus, this defense mechanism would have equity, so that it could borrow funds in the markets. This system could also be open to non -EU members because of the danger from the Russian Federation. It is about Ukraine, Norway and the United Kingdom.
“Since the Ministry of Defense will be the owner of the purchased equipment, debts incurred for its payment will be reflected in the accounts of the Ministry of Defense, not in national accounts. Such a mechanism will also contribute to the creation of the European Defense Market, which will reduce costs and combine the resources of the participating countries,” the material notes.
In turn, the Bruegel analytical center document states that the EU may reduce its military dependence on the United States by 2030. This will happen if joint purchases are made and the European Defense Market will be created to make the UK the main industrial player in this area.

The European Union emphasized that military cooperation and joint defense initiatives for Europe should be the first step to do this.
At the same time, Foreign Policy reported that US President Donald Trump has undermined the sale of US weapons to Europe. According to US weapons manufacturers, it is feared that the policy of “buy” will become the norm for the EU.
