The arrest attempt was stopped for the safety of the personnel on the ground.
According to CNN and Reuters, the President was detained by the Office of Corruption Investigation for High Officials (CIO), which heads a joint group of investigators from the police and the prosecutor’s office.
Once on the territory of the residence, the Director of the Office and the police faced the border of the employees of the State Security Service and the military. There were also hundreds of Yoon supporters on the main road, who shouted that the warrant was illegal and called for the arrest of the director of the department himself.
Due to such pressure and for the safety of people on the ground, investigators stopped the arrest attempt, but the warrant, which is valid until January 6, remains valid and may be extended.
“We have determined that execution of the arrest warrant will be virtually impossible due to the ongoing standoff, and have suspended execution due to concerns about the safety of on-site personnel caused by the standoff. We plan to make a decision on next steps after reviewing the case,” the director of the Press Office said.
