This was reported by the Minister of Defense Rady Shakalene, writes Delfi.

According to her, there is an opportunity to change Article 137 of the Lithuanian Constitution, which now prohibits the deployment of mass destruction in the country of the country and foreign military bases.

Currently, the minister said, there are no specific proposals from the Allies, however, says Lithuania should be ready if appropriate decisions are made.

“My position as the Minister of Defense is that we must still initiate a deeper discussion and evaluate this issue,” Shakalene said.

In general, the minister considers that Lithuania should prepare for possible threats, acting on the principle, “as if tomorrow will be a war”, because if such a direct threat will appear, there will be no time to change something.

“All Lithuania must be protected, not just a national defense system. Every citizen, unit, structure, department, institution must be ready. When a crisis will come, there will be no time to reorganize or change the procedures,” she said.

According to Shakalene, the state should move to “thinking of wartime”, that is, all functions and units of the national defense system will be evaluated how much they help to fight the potential aggressor.

The official reported that the Ministry of Defense is already preparing conditions for citizens to prepare the state not only with weapons. She assured that the country’s defensive plans should not be on paper, but constantly checked in practice.

Also, the newspaper notes, the Minister said that Lithuania, along with NATO allies, monitors “every movement of Russian tank columns, every flight of a plane or launch of a rocket.”

“We see and hear what they are doing. It is very important to know that you have a calm sense of security, not illusory peace … We see what they are doing, and we are really getting ready for everything,” Shakalena said.

Nuclear weapons: The latest newsAs reported earlier, Polish President Andrzej Duda urged the United States to postpone US nuclear warheads stored in Western Europe or the United States, to Poland as a restraining factor against future Russian aggression.

It has also recently been noted that US President Donald Trump’s actions can lead to the unrestrained dissemination of nuclear weapons, including Europe and Asia. According to Foreign Policy, US security guarantees, which were considered quite reliable, were undermined by Trump. It is noted that if one of NATO allies decides to protect itself from the nuclear threat from the Russian Federation, creating its own weapons of mass damage, the effect of domino may occur, which will lead to the emergence of several more nuclear states.
