Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine Taras Kachka announced this on Facebook.

“The reasons become clear when you see a 333% increase in electricity imports ($669 million), a 103% increase in batteries ($950 million) and a 108% increase in transformers ($596 million),” the official said.

Kaczka added that the growth of imports of unmanned aerial vehicles was 77%, reaching 1.2 billion dollars. Oil products are the leaders of imports – here the indicators amounted to 6.8 billion dollars.

Another large category was goods that are one way or another related to war and defense ($4.5 billion):

“So energy challenges and defense are the main drivers of imports.”

Kaczka specified that trade with Poland decreased last year – in 2024, our country imported from it 6.8% less than in 2023.

However, even despite this reduction, Poland continued to be the leader in the supply of goods from the European Union. Of the 34.3 billion dollars of all imports from the EU, it accounted for 6.8 billion dollars. In addition, trade with Turkey decreased – the drop in imports amounted to 13.5%.

At the same time, imports from the PRC are growing significantly – the total volume of imports amounted to 14.3 billion dollars. This is 37.4% more than in 2023.

According to Kachka, trade with the PRC may undergo fundamental changes due to possible restrictions from the new American administration. This applies, in particular, to tariff rates in the World Trade Organization.
