As she found out, the man turned out to be Ukrainian. She wrote about this on her page on the X social network.

The minister said that the incident happened on December 14, when she was driving to the old part of Riga. According to Brazhe, the driver Oleksandr “did not speak a word of Latvian”.

The diplomat added that the driver also did not speak English, French, Ukrainian, Dutch or German – only Russian.

At the same time, the Bolt company wrote in a comment under its post that only drivers who have a license issued by the Directorate of Road Transport can use the service. Such a certificate requires knowledge of the state language at a level not lower than B1.

Brahe later released part of the correspondence with Bolt’s customer service, in which she was told that the driver was an “independent partner”.

In her turn, on December 18, the diplomat reported that a representative of the company called her and noted that the driver is Ukrainian and therefore does not speak Latvian. However, she emphasized that Russian should not be the only language for communication among drivers in Latvia.

Language scandals in UkrainePreviously, Ukrainian singer Anastasia Prykhodko publicly defended the Russian language. She said that those who raise the language issue in Ukraine are trying to divide the people.

It was also reported that in Kyiv, men attacked a girl who made a remark to them about the Russian language. They reacted aggressively to her request to speak Ukrainian, began to mock and express contempt for the Ukrainian language.
