According to him, five projects will receive financing for 300 billion euros, and in general, joint purchases will allow attracting more than 11 billion dollars for supplies to the countries of the EU Armed Forces.
“We are taking an important step in defense cooperation,” said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Joint procurement opens “a new era of defense cooperation,” the European Commission said in a statement. They are expected to “make critical defense capabilities more accessible.”
Most of the five projects approved this time also provide for purchases for Ukraine, including air defense systems, ammunition and measures to strengthen defense capabilities in the context of Russian aggression, the report says.
In Europe, it is hoped that the consolidation of the countries’ requests will increase predictability and encourage industry to speed up production, as well as improve interaction between the Armed Forces of the countries.
The EU has approved a joint procurement mechanism following a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
