“Let’s put away the rose-colored glasses and be a little realistic. Especially when it comes to options for achieving peace. In fact, in the current situation, it is unrealistic to expect the Russian Federation to withdraw from the territories it currently holds. It is also unrealistic to expect that Ukraine will become a member of NATO. This is not just the opinion of the Slovak government, but a situation that is impossible,” said Fico.
The Slovak opposition announced on January 15 that it will initiate a vote of no confidence in the government of Robert Fico, accusing the prime minister of rapprochement in foreign policy with Russia, rather than solving the country’s internal problems.
Previously, Fico said that Slovakia loses 500 million euros a year due to the cessation of gas transit from Russia and offered a meeting with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, on the territory of Slovakia. The Ukrainian president invited Fico to Kyiv.
After that, the prime minister of Slovakia invited the Ukrainian president to meet in Davos. In a comment to Bloomberg, Zelensky said that he “can’t plan anything” because Fico “may go to Davos, but he will end up somewhere in Sochi.”
Fico traveled to Moscow last month for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on ending the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine, but did not visit Kyiv.
