Plachkov told what to expect and what the duration of blackouts in winter will depend on.
The expert described three possible scenarios for the passage of the winter period:
- Optimistic scenario: a warm winter (-4°C…-5°C) and no massive shelling. In this case, short-term outages for 2 hours are possible, which will be organized according to the schedule.
- Average scenario: cold winter (-18°C…-25°C) without attacks. Fan and stabilization outages will last 4-6 hours.
- Pessimistic: cold winter and massive attacks. In this case, long, unpredictable outages for several days are possible to protect the power system.
“They will turn off as many as necessary. Without asking or warning anyone,” said Plachkov regarding the pessimistic development of events in winter.
Power outages in Ukraine – an expert’s forecastIf sub-zero temperatures persist in winter, power cuts may be introduced in Ukraine. This statement was made by Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Energy Research Center.
“There are several variants of meteorological forecast scenarios, in which there are 2-2.5 weeks of frosts down to -15. So if this happens, then indeed in such a case there will definitely be blackouts,” he said.
