This assumption was made by President of Finland Alexander Stubb by The New York Times. At the same time, he acknowledged that Ukraine would probably have to go to territorial compromises, given the situation on the battlefield.

The publication suggested that Trump listened to Stubb’s opinion, because a day after they played golf in Florida together, the US president stated that he was “angry” to the Kremlin and threatened with sanctions of the countries that buy Russian oil. And a few hours after Trump and Stubb sat near the funeral of Pope Francis in the Vatican, the White House head made a sharp statement about Russian blows to Ukrainian cities.

However, Stubb himself did not agree that he has influence on Trump, saying, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Kir Starmer heads European efforts to end the war in Ukraine, and his role is only to “push things in the right direction.”

According to him, after his last communication with the US President, he felt his annoyance.

“The President ends in patience, and we have heard quite rigid statements about Putin (Vladimir Putin – Russian dictator, ed.)

Commenting on the scheme of a peace agreement, which includes the recognition of the United States of Crimea in the territory of Russia, and an alternative version of Ukraine and Europe, he noted that these two proposals “need to be redecorated” in order to conclude the agreement as soon as possible.

Stubb believes that Finland understands the “danger of peace talks” for Ukraine better than any other country, because in the 1940s after the war with the Soviet Union, it gave way to the Russian Federation, agreed to neutrality and restrictions on its army, remaining for decades to some extent. He emphasized that he did not want Ukraine to do the same fate.

According to him, statehood consists of land, sovereignty and independence, and Finland lost two of these three components in the 1940s. Stubb said he would like Ukraine to retain all three components, but recognized that it may have had to compromise about the territory if you take into account the realities of the battlefield.

“If we get at least two of the three components for Ukraine, I think it is wonderful. But Finland never, never recognizes any of the territories that Russia annexed during this war in Ukraine,” Stubb said.

He explained that security guarantees for Ukraine should provide for the weapons of Ukraine “to teeth” in order to restrain the re -attack of the Russian Federation.

Other statements by Stubb on the end of the war in UkraineAccording to UNIAN earlier, according to President of Finland, only Trump can be a mediator between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. After his meeting with the US President in Florida, Stubb explained that Putin was respected, and he was largely afraid of Donald Trump.

The President of Finland also criticized the discussions about peacekeepers. He believes that it is not time to discuss the introduction of foreign troops into Ukraine now. Stubb stressed that even if Europe has been sending to Ukraine from 20 to 60 thousand soldiers, it will not play a decisive role. “There are many other ways to continue Ukraine’s support. Land troops are not on our agenda now,” he said.

In addition, Stubb stated that Europe should appoint a specialist in Ukraine, as well as create its own negotiation group as in the US. “Because right now, though we really have a good leadership from France and the United Kingdom, the question still arises: well, who is a European messenger, who should I call?” – explained the President of Finland.
