The country is part of the single European energy market.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reminded that Bratislava’s supply of critical volumes of electricity to Kyiv is not charity, because Ukraine pays for it.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that Ukraine is currently forced to import electricity sometimes due to the occupation of the ZNPP, constant missile strikes on civilian infrastructure, the power system, generation facilities and distribution networks.

“By senseless threats to cut off electricity to Ukraine, which it buys and does not receive as a gift, Prime Minister Robert Fizo is actually siding with the Russian dictator,” the statement reads.

In this regard, Ukraine appealed to the European Commission to respond to Fico’s threats.

“Slovakia is part of the single European energy market and must comply with common European rules. We call on the European Commission in cooperation with ENTSO-E (European Network of Electricity Transmission System Operators, – UNIAN) to respond to Slovakia’s threats regarding arbitrary decisions,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.

Transit of Russian gas through Ukraine – Fico’s threatsThe Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, rudely responded to Zelenskyi on the decision to stop the transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine. In particular, he threatened to stop supplying electricity to Ukraine after January 1, 2025.

For his part, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Vladimir Putin instructed Fico to open a “second energy front against Ukraine” at the expense of the interests of the people of this country.
