The expert urged to keep export duty on soybean and rapese / photo ua.depositphotos.comThe preservation of “soybean” despite the fierce resistance from exporters and their associations is a test for professionalism for the government and parliament. This was stated by Ukrainian economist Viktor Galasyuk.
In his opinion, now the EBA, the US Chamber of Commerce, the Ukrainian Grain Association is trying to “break” 10% duties on soybeans and rapeseed through the knee, protecting the commercial interests of their members – large grain traders.
“But in this case, the interests of Ukraine do not coincide with the interests of these players. Just because it is not profitable for Ukraine to be a raw material.
He called not only to keep the duty export, but also to raise it, expanding all the raw materials – industrial, ore, etc. At the same time, restrictions on export of raw materials should be synchronized with tax incentives for the domestic manufacturer. Such economic policies are embodied by the United States, Turkey, Poland, and other countries that are significantly ahead of Ukraine in terms of living standards.
“This is what pushes the economy upwards, expands the economic space, gives people the opportunity to earn, creates new jobs, brings currency revenue from finished products, not three pennies from raw materials,” the expert said.
In order to overcome GDP per capita with EU countries, Ukraine should increase the share of processing industry in the economy. According to Galayuk, this can be achieved even despite the fighting and destruction, provided that the economy will work in the interests of producers, not raw materials exporters and importers of finished goods.
