The actions of the Hungarian side are even more distant from peacekeeping than its statements, the agency says.
“Hungarian officials are once again claiming that they are supposedly able to stop the war, but these claims are not true. In fact, after Hungarian “peacekeeping” calls to Moscow, deadly missiles and drones are flying over Ukrainian cities and communities,” the message emphasizes.
At the same time, as noted by Ukrainian diplomats, “the Hungarian side’s actions are even more distant from peacemaking than its statements.”
“Hungary consistently calls for Ukraine, which is defending itself against Russian genocidal aggression, to be left without weapons for self-defense, prevents financing of strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities, increasing sanctions pressure against the aggressor and other critically important decisions. All this has nothing to do with the desire to restore peace,” they emphasize at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
At the same time, Ukrainian diplomats call on the Hungarian side “to stop immoral manipulations on the topic of peace and Christmas, to refrain from unilateral contacts with the aggressor state, which undermine joint efforts to restore a just peace.”
As stated in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, only Russia and its war-obsessed dictator stand in the way of peace. Ukraine seeks peace on its land like no other in the world.
“The joint efforts of our state and its partners are aimed at achieving a just and sustainable peace. Ukraine always adheres to the principles of honest dialogue and mutual respect. We will continue constructive contacts with our partners who sincerely seek the end of the war, not the defeat of Ukraine,” – summarized the ministry
Hungary’s statements about the war in Ukraine and the “ceasefire”On December 16, the head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Peter Szijjártó, said that at the meeting of foreign ministers of the European Union countries in Brussels, no one, except for the representative of Slovakia, supported Hungary’s idea of a “Christmas truce” between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. The Hungarian minister claimed that the EU allegedly does not want a ceasefire in Ukraine and “ignores the situation on the battlefield.”
Earlier, Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán said that his country allegedly offered Ukraine to establish a ceasefire on Christmas and conduct a large-scale exchange of prisoners of war. According to him, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi seems to have rejected this idea.
Commenting on this statement, the adviser to the President of Ukraine, Dmytro Lytvyn, emphasized that Ukraine did not authorize Hungary to take any actions, and Hungary did not warn about contacts with Moscow.
