Ukraine adheres to the treaty on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, the spokesman of the diplomatic institution stressed.
This material was commented on the X social network by the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhiy Tyhiy. He emphasized that Ukraine adheres to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
“Ukraine abides by the NPT; we do not possess, do not develop, and do not intend to acquire nuclear weapons,” he said.
Tychy emphasized that Ukraine closely cooperates with the IAEA and “is completely transparent” for its monitoring, which excludes the use of nuclear materials for military purposes.
What precededThe Times published an article in which Ukraine can create an elementary nuclear bomb within a few months if Donald Trump refuses US military aid. The publication referred to a document prepared for the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The authors noted that Ukraine controls nine operating reactors and has significant nuclear experience, despite the fact that in 1996 it gave up the third largest nuclear arsenal in the world. So experts are able to quickly create a basic plutonium device using a technology similar to the Tovstun bomb dropped on Nagasaki in 1945.
