According to them, Beijing had access to low- or medium-class information held on British government servers. This includes information marked “officially confidential” and “secret”, as well as some materials in the protected IT networks of the British government.
Sources of journalists claim that China had access to confidential documents related to the formation of government policy, private messages and some diplomatic cables. At the same time, it is emphasized that intelligence and top-secret information were not compromised.
One of the incidents involved a data center in London that was used to store some sensitive government information and was sold to an entity linked to China. Ministers in the then government proposed a plan to destroy the data center before it was secured in another way.
However, the publication’s sources noted that China’s attempts to hack British government computer systems showed that Beijing poses a significant threat to national security. several people told Bloomberg. According to the UK government website, the UK’s official document classification system has three levels.
