Changing Trump’s position against Ukraine is Putin’s correct signal but it is not enough – Foreign Policy

All because peace will not be without additional pressure on the Kremlin. And Trump must admit that the war in Ukraine is now his responsibility, not his predecessors.

As the Senior Researcher at the Hadson Coffi Institute, a senior researcher at the Foreign Policy column, now the situation has begun to change. In particular, it has been announced that US -made weapons will be delivered for several billion dollars that Europeans will allocate.

Coffey noted that this allows Trump to balance on the verge of political collapse with his supporters, many of whom are skeptical of increasing assistance to Ukraine.

At the same time, Trump gave Putin for 50 days to sit at the negotiating table. The analyst noted that Russian officials were already making fun of this, since Trump still put forward such ultimatums, but after the deadline has happened.

Coffey stressed that the problem is the absence of a consistent and realistic policy in Trump to achieve the goal – to end the war in Ukraine.

“Part of the guilt lies on his team, especially in the Ministry of Defense,” the analyst said.

Coffey cited an example that the most anxious example occurred when the Pentagon suddenly stopped supplying weapons to Ukraine. This decision was caught by surprise not only Ukraine and Europeans, but also many in Washington, including Trump himself. When asked, he seemed to not know about this decision.

The analyst noted that this ill -advised Pentagon decision was difficult for Ukraine and Trump. For Ukraine, many of the delayed supplies of weapons were extremely necessary air defense products – while the Russian Federation beat in Ukrainian cities. For Trump, a sudden stopping of weapons supplies has undermined a rare moment of geopolitical impulse after a successful NATO summit, a decisive blow to Iran’s nuclear objects and a ceasefire reached in the US.

“In conjunction, these steps could create the opportunity for Trump to force the Kremlin to negotiate. Instead, a sudden termination of weapons deliveries with the Pentagon gave the opposite signal – a signal of sharp changes in US policy and internal differences, thereby weakening Trump’s position at a critical time. That is why Trump was important.”

He noted that the impression was that Trump had lost control of the diplomatic process that he sought to realize about war in Ukraine, and that Putin sets the conditions.

In addition to the statement of military assistance, there are other specific steps that Trump can take right now to restore control.

The analyst noted that the first and most important step is the recognition that a fair and honest peace corresponds to Trump’s own interests, since any other result will seriously undermine his authority as a statesman abroad and his popularity within the country.

“If Moscow believes that it has success, Trump’s critics domestically and abroad are rightly doubted in the strength and strategy of his foreign policy.

Trump also needs to give up that the war in Ukraine is a “Biden War” and to admit that the responsibility is now lying on it. Coffey noted that after 6 months in the oval office, the denial of the war is no longer politically justified and does not contribute to the development of a decision.

Secondly, Trump should ensure the use of all the allocated assistance to Ukraine. He must also urge Congress to approve a new additional assistance package to Ukraine after current assistance is over.

Third, the Trump administration should also develop a strategy for the development of the Defense Sector of Ukraine and its closer integration with American defense contractors and startups in the field of military technology:

“Strengthening the defense industry of Ukraine is not only the delivery of weapons to the front; it is one of the most effective long -term guarantees of Ukraine’s security, which will also bring significant benefits to the US defense sector.”

Trump gave Putin 50 daysIn his high -profile statement about RFTRAMP, he said that he gave Russian dictator Vladimir Putin for 50 days, to sit at the negotiation table for the end of his war against Ukraine. Otherwise, it will impose sanctions.
