The European Union will provide Ukraine with EUR 1.5 billion in aid every month, starting from January 2025, the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Kaya Callas, announced on December 16 during a press conference after the first meeting of the 27 EU foreign ministers.

Kallas did not specify the terms of the monthly allowance.

She also reminded that this month the European Union allocated 4.2 billion to Ukraine to support its budget.

“But more support is needed. As the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiga told us when he joined us via video link, a very difficult situation has developed in Ukraine on the battlefield. We all heard him loud and clear. Ukraine needs more ammunition, stronger air defense and more support for its own defense industry. And we have to give Ukraine what it needs to win this war,” she emphasized.

In May, the EU Council adopted a plan for the Ukraine Facility, which sets out the Ukrainian government’s intentions to restore, reconstruct and modernize the country, as well as the reforms it plans to implement as part of the EU accession process over the next four years. This step made it possible to start regular payments within the framework of the Fund for Ukraine for 50 billion euros.

According to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, since the beginning of the invasion of the Russian Federation as of the beginning of August, the European Union has provided Ukraine with 108 billion euros in aid.
