At the talks in Beijing, Burbok warned China against supporting Russia

German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock warned her Chinese counterpart on Monday that Beijing’s support for Russia would “affect” relations.

Germany’s top diplomat met in Beijing with her counterpart Wang Yi for a “strategic dialogue”.

The minister told Wang Yi that “China’s growing support for Russia’s war against Ukraine has an impact on our relations.”

“The main interests of German and European security are affected,” Berbock said, as quoted by AFP.

Immediately after that, the German foreign minister will go to Brussels for a meeting of NATO foreign ministers.

China positions itself as a neutral party in the war in Ukraine and declares that it does not provide military aid to either side, unlike the US and other Western countries.

But Beijing remains a close political and economic ally of Russia, and NATO members have branded China a “decisive facilitator” of a war it has never condemned.
