Andriy Parubiy is a Ukrainian politician, public figure and former Verkhovna Rada chairman. He was born on January 31, 1971 in the Sheptytsky (Chervonograd) of Lviv region. In 1994 he graduated from the Faculty of History of Lviv State University, and in 2001 – graduate school at the Department of Political Science and Sociology of the National University “Lviv Polytechnic”.

Andriy Parubiy is married to Ulyana Parubiy, who works at the Department of Folklore of Lviv National University. The couple has a daughter Yarina.

Political careerAt the age of 17, Parubiy headed the youth organization “Heritage”, which was engaged in national liberation movement and organized pickets. In 1991, he co-founded the Social-National Party of Ukraine (SNPU), which later transformed into “Freedom”. In 1998-2004 he headed its paramilitary wing “Patriot of Ukraine”. In 2004, Parubiy came out of these organizations, distanced from radical views.

Parubiy actually started his political career in the Lviv Regional Council. In 2007, Andrey Parubiy became a People’s Deputy from the Bloc “Our Ukraine – People’s Self -Defense”. In 2014, he became one of the founders of the People’s Front. On December 4, 2014, he was elected the first deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, and on April 14, 2016 – the head of the Parliament.

Since 2019, Parubiy has been a current People’s Deputy from the EU Party. He is one of the authors of language law.

Scandals and criminal casesIn December 2014, Parubiy became a victim of attempted attempted: near the Kiev Hotel, an unknown threw a grenade while meeting with associates. The then Interior Minister, Arsen Avakov, stated that the attack was organized by a terrorist organization, and among the suspects was the ex-commander of the inner troops of Yanukovych Stanislav Shuliak.

This initiative became the basis for the formation of volunteer battalions, which later participated in hostilities in eastern Ukraine.

Parubiy actively coordinated the actions of protesters, organized the defense of the Maidan and provided communication between different groups of participants. His activities were aimed at supporting peaceful protest and counteracting violence by law enforcement agencies. After the victory of the Revolution of Dignity, Parubiy continued his political career, holding positions in the government and the Parliament of Ukraine.

  • The Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise of the 5th degree (2009) – for a significant personal contribution to the development of the constitutional foundations of Ukrainian statehood and many years of conscientious work in the protection of human rights and freedoms.

  • Memorial Medal “25 years of Independence of Ukraine” (2016) – for a significant contribution to the protection of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, courage and heroism during hostilities, as well as active public activity.
  • Order of Honor III degree (2014) – for personal courage and heroism revealed during the performance of duties.
  • Medal “For Merit to the Ukrainian People” (2017) – for a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian statehood and strengthening of Ukraine’s international authority.
  • Certificate of Honor of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (2019) – for many years of conscientious work and personal contribution to the development of Ukrainian parliamentarism.

The murder of Andrew ParubiyOn August 30, the National Police reported that a well -known public and political figure of Ukraine was killed in Lviv in 1971. The head of the Lviv Regional Military (State) Administration Maxim Kozitsky confirmed that he was talking about Andrei Parubiy – the former chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.
