An important week of meetings with our friends in Europe – the largest defense donors and the strategic region of the Balkans and Southeast Europe in general.
Today – Berlin, talks with Chancellor Scholz, just now – a meeting with President Steinmeier.
There will be a new defense package for Ukraine from Germany. I especially thank you for the help with the air defense systems – in this Germany is the absolute leader in support. I thank you for another IRIS-T.
We discussed with the chancellor what the support will be this year and next year – it is very important for us that the amount of aid from Germany remains stable, and this will be a signal that the path to peace will be certain despite everything. They discussed how to further consolidate the world to bring peace closer.
Informed President Steinmeier about our work with partners and how we can add strength to Ukraine’s positions so that all of Europe will benefit from this.
This morning, he held a meeting with Pope Francis and Secretary of State Cardinal Parolin in the Vatican. The release of our people from Russian captivity is a very sensitive issue for Ukraine, for many families in Ukraine. Soldiers and civilians, children and adults. Thousands of Ukrainian men and women. Yesterday it became known about the death in Russian captivity of Ukrainian journalist Victoria Roschyna. My condolences to the family.
But she was on the lists for exchange.
It is very difficult to conduct this work – to encourage exchanges, and that is why we need special help, in particular the efforts of the Vatican.
We agreed that Ukraine will hand over the list of journalists who are currently in captivity in Russia. We discussed in detail the return of civilians, the return of deported children. And we hope for your support.
We are preparing a meeting in Canada for this month specifically on this point of the Peace Formula, on humanitarian issues. I invited the Vatican to participate.
And here, in Germany, and yesterday in one day in three countries – Britain, France, Italy – I presented our Victory Plan to the leaders of Europe. Prime Minister Starmer, President Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Maloney. And today – in a conversation with Olaf. All the details of our strategy for approaching peace are geopolitical, military, and economic.
It was explained in London what range is needed now and what our vision is to strengthen the front. We had a very good conversation with Emmanuel, and France has already helped us unite other partners in many ways, and now we are counting on this kind of leadership. Italy is a very principled position of Giorgi, a clear understanding of our motives and the needs of Europe. I thank Olaf for our conversation today, Germany has all the details – both regarding military aspects and geopolitical and economic ones. We must act together – everyone who has the necessary power, the necessary influence to guarantee a reliable peace, to force Russia to peace. But it is necessary to act now, in these months. Strengthen our guys at the front. Strengthen our common positions. Now, at the team level, we will work with partners in Europe to maximize each planned step, and this Plan of ours must lead to an effective second Peace Summit to end the war. And that it was a fair, honest end to the war.
And one more thing.
I am grateful to Croatia and all partners in the Balkans and the region of South-Eastern Europe for our third summit – this format that helps to preserve European unity. I thank everyone for supporting the Peace Formula and the format of the Peace Summit. I am sure that the Victory Plan – if the partners are really determined with us – will be a reliable bridge between the situation now and the peace that we all so long for.
